"Youth is Short, but the Memory Lasts a Lifetime"
Hi there. Thank you for sitting down with me today to look back at a road we’ve all traveled, are currently traveling, or will soon pass through. A road called Youth.
Have you ever caught yourself staring at an old photo, looking at your own smile from when you were 18 or 20? Back then, time seemed to crawl. Summer days felt like they would last forever. But then, in the blink of an eye, youth is suddenly behind us. It’s true what they say: youth is short—so short that we barely have time to understand what "growing up" means before we are forced to be adults.
1. Why Youth is Brief: Because We Lived Without Filter
Why is it that when we look back, youth feels like it lasted only a second? Perhaps it’s because that was the time we were our most "authentic" selves.
- We loved someone with all our foolishness, without calculating the cost.
- We chased dreams with reckless abandon, not caring about tomorrow.
- We could stay up all night just talking to a friend about the most impossible, beautiful things.
When we immerse ourselves so deeply in passion and raw emotion, time disappears. Youth is short because every single second of it was filled to the brim with fire.
2. Regret: The Secret Ingredient
In a book I once read, the author wrote:
"Youth is like a cup of tea. Whether you sip it slowly or gulp it down, it will eventually run dry. What matters isn’t how much is left in the cup, but the flavor it leaves on your lips."
The brevity of youth isn't meant to make us mourn what is lost, but to teach us how to cherish the "now." The mistakes of our younger years, the wrong paths taken, the unfinished love stories—these are all the pieces that built the person you are today. If youth lasted forever, it probably wouldn't be half as beautiful.
3. Don’t Let Youth Be a Past-Tense Word
People often say, "My youth is over." But I choose to think differently. Youth isn't just a number on your ID card. Youth lives in the spark in your eyes when you see something new; it lives in the beat of your heart when you start a fresh challenge.
Even if that specific "season" of life is short, if you live every moment fully, then every stage of your life will carry its own unique brilliance.
My friend, don't be sad because youth is fleeting. Be grateful that you had such a vibrant chapter to begin with. Don’t spend your life trying to find your way back to the old days. Instead, use the maturity you have now to write new pages that are just as passionate as the ones from years ago.
Youth may be short, but the love and the lessons it leaves behind are the luggage that stays with us until the very end.
Thank you for reading. May you always keep the fire of youth alive in your heart, no matter what age you are today.
