China vows to stand firm against U.S. tariffs

China has announced that it will firmly oppose new U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods. Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said: “We do not seek a trade war, but we will take all necessary measures to safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.” He criticized the U.S. for applying “double standards” and urged Washington to cancel the additional tariffs immediately. This announcement comes after the U.S. announced plans to impose new tariffs on Chinese products starting November 1, 2025, in response to China’s export controls on rare earth materials, which Beijing says are for national security purposes, not retaliation.
