Trump Claims Tariffs Are Driving Strong U.S. Economic Growth

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday to publicly credit his tariff policies for the unexpectedly strong 4.3% annualized growth of the U.S. economy in the third quarter of 2025, the fastest pace in two years. He hailed the figures as evidence that tariffs were driving economic momentum, declared that inflation was “non-existent,” and linked the results to strengthened “national security.” Trump highlighted increases in consumer spending, government outlays, and exports as contributors to the higher GDP, and emphatically declared that “the numbers will only get better.”  

In his posts, the president painted the robust GDP report as the result of his administration’s trade and spending policies, including higher tariffs, asserting they were revitalizing domestic production and narrowing trade deficits. He contrasted these results with prior economic performance and projected ongoing strength, framing the data as part of what he called a “Trump Economic Golden Age.” Government officials supporting the narrative emphasized that consumer demand remained solid and that exports had risen, giving the impression that trade policy was working as intended.  

Despite the White House’s celebration, analysts and other news coverage make clear there’s broader debate over how much tariffs themselves actually contributed to these headlines, with many economists urging caution in interpreting the link between tariff policy and GDP results. Still, the president’s message was unequivocal: he claims the tariff strategy is yielding strong economic performance and will continue to benefit the U.S. economy going forward.
